Ranikhet is a place of legends. Once upon a time, Queen Padmini of Kumaon was in love with this tiny hill paradise. King Sudhardev had to oblige her by building a place here naming this place “ Ranikhet” the queen’s field.

No trace of the palace can be found, but the place remains the same: bewithching, full of flowers, trees and green meadows a midst heavenly Himalayan surroundings. Lost into oblivisin for long, the picturesque hill station wa rediscovered by the British. They bought it from the local villagers to build it into a summer resort and established an army recruitment centre. It’ still the headquaters of the Kumaon Regiment.

At a height of 1,829mtrs. Ranikhet has every to oothe the nerves of an avid city dweller: the salubrious atmosphere, tall conifer tree, green meadows, serene surroundings, absolute peace and the hospitable people. Of course, it has one of the best hill golf greens (9 hotel) in the entire country
Chaubatia Grden
10kms. South of Ranikhet are the famous orchards, awhich remain laden with fruits round the year. Ranikhet is known for its delicious apples, apricots, peaches and various other alpine fruits. You can buy them right from the growers. There is also a government run Fruit Research Centre. Bhalu Dam nearby in the background of the beautiful lake created by this Dam, attracts tourist round the year.
 
Rani Jhee
Rani Jheel is a huge artificial lake, developed between two natural ridges of Ranikhet - Canossa Convent School and Kendriya Vidyalaya. It was built by the Cantonment board, for rain water harvesting.
 
Hairakhan Dham
Hairakhan Dham is the ashram of Hairakhan Baba, a saint who lived in Hairakhan between 1970 and 1984. It is approximately 5 km away from the main township of Ranikhet. The ashram is a spiritual place where people from all religion are embraced equally.
 
Mankameshwar Temple
Mankameshwar Temple was built by Indian Army’s Kumaon Regimental Centre, in 1978. The presiding deities of this temple are Ma Kalika, Lord Shiva and Radha-Krishna. The location of the place is magnificent and enjoys a pleasant weather throughout the year. Near by the temple is a Gurdwara and factories of woolen garments.
 
Bhalu Dam
Bhalu Dam is a very beautiful lake, developed in the reserved forest, approximately 3 km below the Chaubattia Orchard. The lake was constructed by the British Government, in 1903.
